Area Of Interest

Lisa Schuster is interested in the diagnosis of hearing and balance disorders and amplification. Upon starting graduate school, she became a research assistant on a hearing aid study being conducted by a PhD audiologist in the hearing aid lab. While wholly unprepared for such a position at the start of her graduate studies, Lisa soon developed a grasp of hearing aid use in the atypical hearing aid patient. The study looked at patients who were using hearing aids but finding limited benefits, though, on paper, their hearing losses and hearing aid fittings should have been straightforward. “The knowledge gained on working on such a study at the beginning of my career has been invaluable, allowing me to really listen to people and to think outside the box to come up with workable solutions for individual patients," Lisa said.
